Hi everyone. I'm going to be doing a fingerpainting stream at least once a month and give the finished work away to a viewer. I would love it if people would paint along with me. The supplies are relatively inexpensive. I paint with oil and the water based oils are non toxic with no need for solvents. I'm going to keep these streams kid friendly. My hope is to motivate people to pick up a brush eventually.
I started painting in April 2017 at the absolutely rock bottom point in my life. It's amazing how God works. 45 year old junkie hits rock bottom and learns that he has a bit of a knack for painting pretty pictures. It's 2 and a half years later and while it's a challenge to acquire all of the skills I'm lacking, it has become my passion.
All you need is 5 colors, a sheet of canvas from a pad, your fingers, water, a business card, and sometimes other things you may find around the house. This first painting was done with fingers, a business card and chopsticks.
This set is 15 bucks. It's enough to get anyone started. We will only be using 5 colors. Titanium White, Blue(Ultramarine or Cobalt), Yellow (cadmium yellow medium), Red (Alizarin Crimson or something similar) and Brown (Burnt Umber).
Here are some canvas pads to choose from based on size. I like to work with 20x16 minimum, but you can go with whatever works for you.
If you don't have a sturdy easel, I suggest taping the canvas to a wall. You can use paper plates for your pallet.
This post is also a request for subject matter ideas. If you have photos that you think would make a good painting, please post them here. Keep in mind that simple is better at this point. Sunset silhouettes, simple forest scenes, space scenes, the fake moon, etc.
It looks like I'm going to be able to do a stream on Saturday evening. I'm really looking forward to doing this and I appreciate all of your input.
